Coming into Fall

After a very busy summer, Whistler is now slowing down as we head into fall. If you own a property in Whistler, this is the perfect time to get your home ready for the busy winter season:

  1. Turn off any faucets outside. Water left in the pipes may freeze and cause damage.
  2. Have your furnace professionally serviced to make sure it is running properly and will not cause any problems in Winter.
  3. Get your fireplace and the chimney cleaned. This will help prevent carbon monoxide to built up and avoid damage by fires.
  4. Make sure your windows and doors are properly sealed to keep the heat inside and the cold air outside.
  5. Check the roof and clean the gutters. It is a good time to inspect your roof for any missing shingles or leaks. At the same time making sure the gutters are free of leaves and debris to ensure water drains properly
  6. If you are planning to do nightly rentals, here are a few things to consider
    1. Check if you have a complete inventory of household items like linens, blankets and pillows, kitchenware, towels etc.
    2. Have a reliable cleaner available for quick turnovers
    3. Consider having a rental manager taking care of your bookings and guests
    4. Make sure appliances, light bulbs, electronics are in good working condition
    5. Make sure door codes, parking passes, keys are available
    6. If you have a hot tub, make sure it has been serviced and cleaned and it is working properly

It is likely that the upcoming winter season will be very busy with tourists visiting Whistler as travel restrictions have lifted since early September 2021, now allowing international travellers into Canada who qualify for the fully vaccinated traveler exemption.

A new regulation is in effect since September 13, 2021, that vaccine cards are needed to enter the following premises:

  • Restaurants, pubs, bars & lounges (indoor & outdoor dining)
  • Night clubs, casinos, movie theatres
  • Indoor concerts, theatre, dance, symphony events
  • Indoor ticketed sporting events
  • Fitness centres, gyms, adult sports (indoor)
  • Indoor group exercise activities
  • Organized indoor events with 50+ people
  • Discretionary organized indoor group recreational activities

After September, 27 2021 a digital vaccine passport on the phone is mandatory for mentioned establishments. An outside of BC immunization record is accepted if you are visiting BC. Check the government page of BC for updated regulations if you consider travelling here.

This time of the year is also good to sort out your activities for the upcoming winter season. The Vail ski passes are already for sale, and it is worth looking into what kind of ski pass is right for you. Getting your ski gear tuned before it gets busy is also a good idea. If you are looking to visit Whistler this Winter, it is recommended to look into booking your accommodation, restaurant visits and activities as soon as possible as these book out quickly.

Autumn in Whistler is beautiful as the leaves turn its colour and the pace slows down. It gives you time and space to prepare for another great Winter season.

Have a wonderful Fall season and take care!
